Maejo: Tuesday 10 September 2013

22 members turned up during light rain that had lasted the entire night before. We set out on the soggy course under cloud cover for the first nine holes and then played the second nine in bright sunshine with high humidity.
Lennart Larsson tied Stuart Duncan for third place with 32 points; based on a countback, Lennart took third place with more points on the back nine. Richard Brown and Jim Hopkins engaged in spirited battle on the back nine, with Richard earning 32 points to take second place, while Jim took first place with 36 points, helped by a par on the eighteenth hole. It was great to see such a good turnout despite the weather.
We look forward to a good turnout on Friday, when we will compete in a Stableford Nassau tournament. The Nassau wager gets its name from the Nassau Country Club on Long Island, New York, where the format was invented in the early 1900s by club captain John B. Coles Tappan. The Nassau is essentially three separate competitions. In a Stableford Nassau, the first competition is for the most points on the first nine holes; the second competition is for the most points on the second nine holes, and the third competition is for the most points over 18 holes. The Nassau is one of golf's most classic and most popular wagers. On Friday, winnings will be split 25% for the winner on the front nine, 25% for the winner on the back nine, and 50% for the overall winner with the most points over 18 holes. See you all on Friday.
