Maejo: Friday 16 August 2013

After the Away Day yesterday, as expected, we had a small number of members at Mae Jo today. 11 members arrived and off we went to compete in wonderful overcast conditions. The course was very wet due to the heavy overnight down pour so pick, clean and place rules were in play today. There seemed to be more players than usual at Mae Jo today and we had some 4 ball groups being held up by an 'extremely slow' 2 ball. Non the less, rounds were completed and although it felt like Saturday had arrived while we were out on the course, we all completed our rounds in reasonable time. The scores were disappointing and certainly didn't reflect the usual high standards of many of our golfers. It was decided (by a vote), that prizes will only be paid to anyone submitting a score within their buffer zone. So, for example, should a category 4 player have the highest score of the day with 31 points, then prizes will not be paid out but rather carried forward to the next competition. Anyone playing outside of their buffer zone will have an increase in their HC and on this basis, it seems unreasonable to provide a pay out. Today the top scores were 31 points from both Ric Cameron and Frank. This kept Ric within his buffer zone but unfortunately not Frank. Therefore Ric collected the money for 1st place and 500 baht will be put in to the pot for our competition on Tuesday. A fitting end to Ric's visit to Chiang Mai, we wish you a safe journey Ric and look forward to seeing you in December. Don Bishop has stepped up for Tuesday and will arrange the groupings for the day. Have a great weekend.
